PREP VOLLEYBALL: T-M-B outlasts K-M-S in tough 5-game battle

KERKHOVEN -- In a tight match the entire night, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton came away with a hard-fought five-game victory Thursday night in a Camden Conference volleyball match against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.

After winning the first game 25-19, the Panthers lost the next two, 25-23, 25-23, respectively, and faced a must-win fourth game.

In that game, T-M-B responded with a 25-22 victory to even the match at two-games apiece.

With a 15-13 victory in Game 5, the Panthers earned a five-set win.

Monica Przybilla led the Panther attack with 18 kills and four blocks.

Kate Johnston had 10 kills and 10 digs, while Ashley Daniels had nine kills for T-M-B (5-5, 2-2).

Tiffani Karbo had 32 set assists and was 20-for-21 serving with four aces.

Lexi Beierman was 20-for-20 serving with two aces and a team-leading 28 digs.

Shea Lanoue was a perfect 19-for-19 serving with three aces and nine kills for the Panthers, who will host Central Minnesota Christian Tuesday.

W-WG 3, Fulda 0

FULDA -- The Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers earned a road victory in Red Rock Conference play Thursday night, sweeping the Fulda Raiders, 25-15, 25-21 and 25-22.

W-WG was led by the net play of Taylor Elzenga and Chanel Madson with nine and six kills, respectively. Elzenga also had seven ace serves and three blocks.

Kristie Hoffman had 18 digs and Molly Jarmer had eight digs for the Chargers.

Sara Jarmer led all players with 23 set assists, while Morganne Knakmuhs had three ace serves for W-WG.

Mari Holinka led the Raiders with seven kills and four ace blocks.

Michelle Goedtke was 11-for-13 serving and Courtney Hulstein was 10-for-11 serving for Fulda. Sheyenne Wildfeuer had four digs for the Raiders.

W-WG (6-1, 3-0) plays in a tournament in Jackson on Saturday. Fulda (2-2, 1-1) hosts Southwest Star Concept Tuesday.

SWC 3, Adrian 1

EDGERTON -- The Southwest Christian Eagles (6-2, 3-0) overcame a first-game loss to defeat the Adrian Dragons (1-5-3, 1-3) in four games in Red Rock Conference action Thursday night.

Game scores were 21-25, 25-14, 25-14 and 25-9.

The Eagles were led to victory by the 24-for-27 serving of Kelsey DeKam (four aces).

Jada Vander Veen and Kara Van Dyke (four blocks, 17 digs) were the leading attackers for SWC with 17 and 12 attacks, respectively.

Kayla Broekhuis had 33 set assists and Morgan Spronk had six blocks for the Eagles.

For the Dragons, Sydne Springman was 11-for-15 serving with two aces. Springman also had six set assists.

Karlee Jackson (five kills) was Adrian's leading attacker.

Karli Meyer had eight digs and Ashley Thier had six set assists for the Dragons.

SWC travels to Hills-Beaver Creek Tuesday. Adrian hosts Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain on Monday.

MCC 3, Ellsworth 0

SLAYTON -- The Murray County Central Rebels (3-2, 2-1) defeated the Ellsworth Panthers Thursday night (0-7, 0-3), sweeping the match, 25-5, 25-20 and 25-8.

MCC's Emily Bose was 8-for-8 serving with seven ace spikes, two ace tips and two ace blocks.

Alyssa Schmidt led all players with 16 set assists, while Elissa Reinsma (17 service points, six ace serves) came up with a match-high 22 digs.

Makenzie Giese was 18-for-18 serving with six ace serves, two ace blocks and four ace spikes for MCC.

Ellsworth's Darian Herman was 5-for-5 serving and Brooke Kix was 7-for-7 serving.

Herman had four ace spikes and Kix had six set assists, while Amanda DeBoer had seven digs for the Panthers.

Ellsworh travels to play Edgerton Tuesday. MCC travels to Mountain Lake to play ML/B-O the same day.

RL-B 3, H-BC 0

ROUND LAKE -- Round Lake-Brewster earned its first victory of the season, defeating Hills-Beaver Creek in three games Thursday night.

Games scores were 25-19, 27-25 and 25-20.

Ceilia Schmitz led the Raiders' cause with 30 digs and four kills.

Karen Schmitz had 12 kills and three blocks for RL-B.

At the service line, the Raiders were led by Breanna Spartz (13-for-18, nine aces) and Olivia Stanton (12-for-12, three aces).

Zoe Baerenwald had 22 digs for RL-B while Mara Eichenberger and Roshay Reimers had nine and seven set assists, respectively.

The Patriots' top contributors were Jayme Plimpton with seven kills and 11 digs, Santana Wysong with seven kills and 10-for-10 serving and Taylor Vaughn with 10 set assists.

RL-B improves to 1-6 overall and 1-2 in the Red Rock Conference. The Raiders travel to W-WG Tuesday.

H-BC (1-4, 1-3) hosts SWC on Tuesday.

SSC 3, ML/B-O 0

OKABENA -- The Southwest Star Concept Quasars remained undefeated in the Red Rock Conference, sweeping the Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin Wolverines by scores of 25-6, 25-14 and 25-11.

Erika Post had 15 digs and eight kills, Bria Baumgard had 13 digs and Luanna Henkels had a match-high 27 set assists for the Quasars.

Katey Granstra (three blocks) led all players with 13 kills. Maddie Collin led SSC at the service line with 19 points on 23-for-24 serving with three aces.

The Wolverines received three solo blocks apiece from Nikki Sawatzky and Jennie Romsdahl.

ML/B-O also received contributions from Kaitlin Feil with four set assists on 16-for-17 setting and Chelsey Kraemer with three sets on 19-for-21 setting.

SSC (6-3, 3-0) hosts Pipestone Area on Monday, while ML/B-O (1-8-4, 0-3) travels to Springfield the same day.

Edgerton 3, RRC 0

JEFFERS -- Alyson Drooger had five kills and seven blocks to lead Edgerton to a sweep of Red Rock Central.

Game scores were 25-18, 25-23, 25-20.

Kelsey Wolthuizen had a match-high eight kills for Edgerton (3-4, 2-1), while Racheal Steffl had five kills.

Macy Butson scored nine points from the service line, had 20 set assists and six digs for Edgerton, while Emily Sluis scored 11 points from the service line.

Kayla VanGrootheest had seven digs to lead Edgerton's defensive effort.

Chloe Arfsten had five kills and 15 digs to lead RRC, while Alyssa Fredrickson added five kills.

Cierra Nickel led the way with 11 set assists and 20 digs, while Alison Kircher had 16 digs for the Falcons (4-6-2, 1-2).

Klarissa Larsen and Amanda Arfsten (10-for-10 serving, one ace) each had four kills on the night.

RRC will travel to Jackson Saturday for a tournament, while Edgerton hosts Luverne Monday.

Marshall 3, Windom 0

MARSHALL -- Winning in three straight sets, the highly-regarded Marshall Tigers (9-1, 1-1) defeated Windom in a key Southwest Conference volleyball match Thursday night.

Game scores were 25-20, 25-21, 25-15.

Leading the Eagles (8-2, 1-1) at the net were Courtney Ysker (eight kills), Abby Hayenga (five kills, eight set assists) and Mikayla Bergendahl (four kills).

Ysker had seven digs to pace the Eagles defensively, while Bergendahl (13-of-14, four aces) and Makenzie Lovell (11-of-12, two aces) were Windom's top two servers.

The Eagles will participate in the 12-team Jackson County Central tournament Saturday.

H-LP 3, G-T 1

GRAETTINGER, Iowa -- After Graettinger-Terril won the opening set by nine points, the visiting Harris-Lake Park Wolves stormed back to win the next three sets and claim a 3-1 Corn Belt Conference volleyball match victory.

Jena Peters had 13 kills to lead the Wolves (6-9, 1-1) at the net, while Deni Peters contributed eight kills and 15 digs.

Jodi Hibma put up 30 set assists for H-LP and was a perfect 14-of-14 at the serving line.

Sam Brueggeman (seven digs) was also 14-of-14 serving, including a trio of aces.

Lydia Brandt was H-LP's third perfect server, going 13-of-13 with a pair of aces.

The Wolves travel to a tournament at Ruthven-Ayrshire Saturday.
