TEA, S.D. -- Thursday will mark a new year and a new beginning for an Ellsworth couple whose barn was destroyed in a Dec. 3 fire.

Steve and Bridget Hinrichs lost equipment, nine horses and their family pet -- a cattle dog, in the blaze. Friends have planned a New Years Day roping fundraiser for their benefit.

"Anybody who has any type of animal if something bad like this happens, you feel for them and a bunch of us we're talking about it one night and about wanting to do some kind of benefits fundraiser to help them out and this is kind of what we came up with," said Rhonda Loges, who is helping to organize the event.
