Public meeting on Minnesota 60 plan is tonight
MANKATO - Worthington residents interested in the aesthetic design plans for the Minnesota 60 construction project are encouraged to attend a meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Worthington Chamber of Commerce conference room, 1121 Third Avenue.
A committee with members from the city of Worthington and the Minnesota Department of Transportation has prepared designs for the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge and railings; Morningside Neighborhood wall patterns and plantings; and the wrought iron elements at the bridge's pedestrian entrance. The general consensus of committee members is to maintain the same design theme that was used for Worthington's downtown project, but there are still options for the public to comment on.
Construction on Minnesota 60 begins in Worthington next spring. The first phase from Nobles County Road 4 to Paul Avenue began in August. All phases of the Highway 60 expansion from Bigelow to Interstate 90 are expected to be complete by the end of 2013.
The completed project will improve corridor continuity and safety; and will increase capacity.
