Reisdorfer, who will be a junior at Adrian this fall, clocked a winning time of 18:55 for the 3.1 mile distance. Kocak, who will be a sophomore at Jackson County Central, finished the course in 19:03.

Both Reisdorfer and Kocak are gearing up for their upcoming cross country seasons.

"It was hot and humid," said Reisdorfer after the race. "I took a small lead early, but missed a turn and needed to finish strong to pull away from Matt."

Four other runners bettered the 20-minute mark, as Grahme Cumiskey (age 22), Mark Kocak (46, Matt's father), Kyle Henning (17) and Tim Meyer (43) ran respective times of 19:08, 19:18, 19:25 and 19:53 in overall places 3-6.

Worthington's Rachel Cowdin (21) and Round Lake's Rachel Wilson (18) ran together the entire distance, finishing 12th and 13th overall - leading the pack of 42 female finishers.

Cowdin clocked a time of 22:41, while Wilson's time was 22:42.

"I have been running some just about every day," said Wilson, who completed a fine cross country and track career at Southwestern United last spring and will go to college at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion this fall. "This was my best time on this course."

Adrian's trio of Erica Thier (16), Austyn Their (13) and Kady Henning (13) were the next three females, finishing 19th, 20th and 21st overall with times of 23:50, 23:50 and 23:52 respectively.

Race director Wayne Klumper noted that this year's total of 87 starting runners was the second highest ever for the Fun Run 5-K -- topped only by last year's record number of 99.

Earlier, the son-father duo of Dustin Cox (15) and Jeff Cox (43) of Sioux Falls had raced to a one-two finish in the mile.

Dustin's winning time was 6:16, while Jeff -- who has won this same race several times -- clocked a time of 6:20.

"I tried to stay with him," said Jeff, who was running the race for at least the 15th time. "But those younger legs just pulled away from me."

David Reisdorfer, a 13-year-old from Adrian, finished third overall with a time of 6:53.

Morgan Johnson, a 12-year-old from Worthington, was the first female finisher. She clocked a time of 8:02 and placed sixth overall.

There were a total of eight male and four female finishers in the mile race.

Numbers Down In Kid's Half Mile

The Fun Run started out with the kid's half mile, which was won by 12-year old McKenzie Besel from Austin, who pulled away from the eight-runner field and covered the distance in 3:35 -- winning the event by 23 seconds.

The second place finisher -- and first boy to cross the line -- was young 6-year-old Davis Moore of Worthington who bettered the four-minute mark, clocking a time of 3:58.

Madison Schmidt, age 7 from Worthington, finished third with her time of 4:15, while 6-year-old Adam Russell of Bigelow, clocked a time of 4:22 and finished fourth overall. Completing the top five was 8-year-old Camila Wede of Worthington with a time of 4:26.

Complete results of the Fun Run will be in Friday's paper.
