Rain garden field trip offered
HERON LAKE -- The Heron Lake Watershed District (HLWD) is sponsoring a one-day excursion on the Prairie Ecology Bus to learn about and construct rain gardens in the city of Fulda. The bus will leave from Heron Lake at 9:30 a.m. and return at 4 p.m., Aug. 8.
This hands-on experience will allow adults and youths ages 8 and older a chance to discover the benefits of rain gardens. In a rain garden, native plants capture and absorb storm water. They also serve as a food source for birds, butterflies and other insects. Noon lunch and necessary tools will be provided. There is no cost for this event.
The group will meet additional participants in Fulda at 10 a.m. at Seven Mile Park.
Advanced registration is requested by contacting the Prairie Ecology Bus Center at (507) 662-5064 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Registration deadline is Aug. 1.
