Ralph C. Werner

Ralph C. Werner, age 91, of Worthington, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Meadows in Worthington. He was born on September 8, 1922, in Salem, SD, to parents, Frank W. and Clare G. (McShane) Werner. Ralph graduated from Salem High School in 1940 and Nettleton Commercial College, Sioux Falls, SD in 1942. In 1942 in joined the United States Air Corp, serving two years state side and two years overseas. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Ralph married Shirley Fabel on April 12, 1946, at Hanson Place Methodist Church, in Brooklyn, NY. They moved to Worthington in 1946. Ralph worked as an accountant all his working days. He worked for the City of Worthington from 1950 and was City Administrator from 1977 to 1980, when he retired.

The couple made their home in Worthington until 1980, when they started spending twenty-four winters in Mesa, AZ. In 2003, they returned to Worthington full time.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Worthington. He enjoyed camping and traveling.

Ralph is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dennis Hehn, Long Beach, CA; grandson, Jason (Erin) Hehn, Littleton, CO; granddaughter, Jessica (James) Luyben, Long Beach, CA; three great-grandsons, James, Dillon and Declan Luyben, and two great-granddaughters, Kylie and Audrey Hehn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley in 2006 and his sister, Dorothy Wood in 2013.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. A memorial service will be Thursday at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Worthington with the Pastor Dr. Daren Flinck officiating. A private burial will be held prior to the service.
