Redbirds pound Express, Bulls thump Lakers (amateur baseball wrap-up)
TRACY -- The Luverne Redbirds opened their amateur baseball season in grand fashion, pounding the Tracy Express, 12-2, Sunday afternoon.
Andrew DeBoer earned the victory on the hill for the Redbirds (1-0), giving up two earned runs on three hits while striking out 11 and walking two in a complete-game effort.
Kyle Mathiowetz suffered the loss for the Express (1-4), striking out four and walking one in four innings of work.
Marc Boelman was 4-for-6 at the plate for the Redbirds. Boelman had three RBI and scored a run. Taylor Graphenteen was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Reed Van Hulzen, Jeff Sehr and JT Bruynes each had a pair of hits.
The Redbirds are scheduled to play Brandon Valley on Thursday.

Jackson 11, Heron Lake 2
HERON LAKE -- Jackson reliever Pat Boggess struck out one and walked one over two innings to pick up the victory, as the visiting Bulls defeated the host Heron Lake Lakers Sunday evening in an amateur baseball tilt.
Jackson starter Tom Hady went five innings for the Bulls (1-0), giving up one run on four hits.
Keith Rogers suffered the loss for the Lakers (0-2). Rogers gave up four earned runs on four hits while striking out four and walking seven in 7 2/3 innings.
Caleb Rossow had a pair of hits and scored three runs for the Bulls. Blaise Jacobsen was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Kip Wachal connected for a pair of hits.
Lucas Knutson led the Lakers at the plate with a 3-for-5 effort, including an RBI and a run scored, while Rogers had a hit and an RBI. Tyler Leopold was 1-for-3 with a double, and Jerrad Meinders had a hit and walked twice.
The Lakers will visit Stark on Wednesday.
