Love INC to offer 13-week GriefShare series locally

— A 13-week GriefShare series will begin Sept. 4 at First Lutheran Church, 1200 Ave., Worthington. Classes will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

GriefShare is a weekly seminar and support group for people grieving the death of a family member or friend. It’s a place where people understand how you feel and the pain of your loss, and you will learn valuable information that will help you deal with this difficult time in your life.

Mary Larson will lead the series, which is sponsored by Love INC and hosted by First Lutheran.

Waffle supper coming up at Adrian United Methodist

ADRIAN — A waffle supper will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, 301 Oklahoma Ave.

Carry-out meals will be available.

Salad luncheon set for Sept. 5 at Slayton church

SLAYTON — A salad luncheon will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 5 at the United Methodist Church,  2764 Broadway Ave. The event coincides with the Slayton Women of Today’s annual Autumn Boutique event, located just a short distance away at the Murray County Fairgrounds.

A large variety of salads, buns, bars and beverages will be served.

Youth ministers group hosts #507 Youth Rally

WORTHINGTON — The Worthington Area Youth Ministers Association will have a #507 Youth Rally beginning with free pizza at 6:30 p.m.  Sept. 7 at the First United Methodist Church, 407 11th St. The rally will be from 7 to 8 p.m.

Youths in seventh through 12th grades are invited to participate in the event, which is intended to unite students and encourage them in their walk of faith.

Master’s Voice Quartet to present concert Sept. 7

OCHEYEDAN, Iowa — The Master’s Voice Quartet will perform a concert of gospel music at 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Ocheyedan Christian Reformed Church, 833 Fifth St.

The quartet, based in Sioux Falls, S.D., was formed in 1988 and has a mission to “Spread God’s Word through song.” Members of the group are Tom Sperling, Phil Jensen, Joel Juillard and Darrell Schmith. For more information on the group, go to www.mastersvoicequartet.com.

A free-will offering will be taken. Refreshments will be served.

Trinity celebrates ‘God’s Work Our Hands’ Sunday

SIBLEY, Iowa — The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America has designated Sept. 7 as “God’s Work Our Hands” Sunday, encouraging members across the nation to help others in need.

Members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sibley will go door to door, canvasing the town of Sibley for donations to the Upper Des Moines Food Bank. They will ask for donations of canned goods and boxed items, such as canned beans, chicken, tuna, peanut butter and protein bars, as well as vegetables and fruit.

A worship service will be at 10 a.m., and then members will divide up and go out into the community for an hour.

If residents aren’t going to be home, they can leave items on their doorstep, labeled for Trinity Lutheran Church. Items can also be left at the church.

St. Anthony Catholic schedules fall bazaar

LISMORE — St. Anthony Catholic Church will have its Fall Bazaar & Craft Auction on Sept. 7.

A roast beef dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal will also include mashed potatoes, gravy, glazed carrots, cole slaw, relishes, rolls, pies, desserts and beverages.

The Country Store will open at 11 a.m., featuring a variety of baked goods, candy, plants, small crafts and fresh produce.

The craft auction gets under way at 1:30 p.m. The Big Ticket drawing will take place during the auction, and there will be a quilt raffle, Pot of Gold, Cake Walk, Money Game, Plinko and Washer Toss tournament. Hot dogs, barbecues, nachos and beverages will be served. Children’s and adult games will be from noon to 1:15 p.m.  

Matching funds are available from Catholic United Financial.
