Rochester sweeps Minnesota West

ROCHESTER -- Stevie Statz, Aaron Delany and Cory Lesnar each scored 13 points Saturday to lead Minnesota West's men's basketball team in a 92-76 loss to Rochester.

The Bluejays shot 51 percent from the field but went scoreless during critical stretches. They trailed by 12 points at halftime and were unable to cut the deficit to fewer than 10 points in the second half.

"Offensively, we did some good things, but we had a stretch where we missed a bunch of good looks," Minnesota West coach Justin Heckenlaible said. "They made shots at critical times, and we couldn't."

Rochester shot 59 percent from the field.

Dan Stryzinski scored 11 points, and Jordan Buddenhagen added 10 for Minnesota West, which will host Riverland on Wednesday.

ROCHESTER -- There wasn't much room for error.

Facing the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, Minnesota West's women's basketball team needed a flawless performance Saturday.

The Lady Jays played well, but it wasn't enough to upset Rochester.

The Yellowjackets earned an 83-50 victory, snapping Minnesota West's three-game winning streak.

"We didn't play all that bad, but against them you have to play almost perfect," Minnesota West coach Mike Fury said. "They're deserving of their ranking, and they showed us why (Saturday)."

Brittany Gravley scored a team-high 13 points, and Ashley Kirk had 10 for the Lady Jays (8-16, 4-5). Jerryann Thomas added eight points and five rebounds, and G.P. Vaske had seven points.

Sam Sikkink scored a game-high 23 points, and Anne Breland added 15 for Rochester (24-0, 9-0), which shot 59.2 percent from the field, including 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc.

Minnesota West will host Riverland on Wednesday.
