Rushmore to celebrate Pride & Heritage Days

RUSHMORE -- The Rushmore Lion's Club annual pork chop feed will kick off that community's Pride and Heritage Days celebration tonight, with a pork chop meal served from 5 to 8 p.m.

The remaining schedule of events for this year's festival follows:

Saturday

8 a.m.: Food stands begin opening

10 a.m.: Art-in-the-Park, kids activities

10 a.m.: Registration for the car/motorcycle show begins in the school park. Vehicles include stock cars, modified cars, street rods, Corvettes, pickups, trikes, motorcycles and more. Trophies to be awarded at 3 p.m.

1 to 3 p.m.: Great Plains Zoomobile's Kid's Creature Feature, school park

1 to 2:30 p.m.: Torque Wrench Pull for children ages 12 and younger, school park. Awards to be presented at 2:45 p.m.

3 p.m.: Kid's pedal tractor pull for ages 4 to 11, school tennis courts. Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place.

4 p.m.: Senior Citizens food stand opens

6 p.m.: Kiddie Parade followed by Community Parade on Main Street and Thompson Avenue. Pre-registration to enter the parade is not needed. Floats and other units may begin lining up at 5 p.m., by going to the intersection of West Avenue and 260th Street for instructions. This year's theme is "The Night the Lights Went Out in Rushmore."

8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.: Street Dance featuring "Road Trip on Main Street," hosted by A.B.A.T.E. Cover charge will support the American Bikers for Awareness, Training and Education.

Sunday

9 a.m.: Community Worship Service, East Friesland Church

Noon: Little League ball tournament at the ball fields
