Rushmore to celebrate state's 150th
RUSHMORE -- Rushmore will celebrate its second annual Pride and Heritage Days this weekend, beginning with a Rushmore Lions Club-sponsored pork chop supper from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday under the big tent on Main Street.
Proceeds from the meal, which includes a grilled Iowa chop, baked potato and fixings, corn, apple sauce, bun and lemonade, go to the Rushmore Lions organization.
A full slate of events is planned for Saturday, beginning with a kids carnival and inflatable games offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Rushmore school park. New this year, a craft fair will open inside the Rushmore school beginning at 10 a.m., with 10 to 15 vendors expected to be on hand, said Sarah Noble, a member of the Rushmore Booster Club that organizes the community celebration.
Registration for the car show will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, with cars on display through the afternoon. Trophies will be awarded and a raffle drawing conducted at 3 p.m.
Registration will also begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 11 a.m. for the tractor pull planned on the rodeo grounds in Rushmore.
"Last year, we had a truck pull, and this year, we're having a tractor pull," Noble said of the event, which is jointly sponsored by the Rushmore Lions and Rushmore Booster clubs. The tractor pull will begin at noon.
A kiddie tractor pull is planned for 4:30 p.m. on Main Street, followed by the Kiddie parade at 6 p.m. Registration for the kiddie parade and main parade begins at 5:30 p.m.
The theme for this year's main parade, which begins at 6:30 p.m., is "Happy Birthday Minnesota," celebrating the state's sesquicentennial. Lineup begins at 5:30 p.m. in the RE Brokers parking lot on South Thompson Avenue.
On Saturday night, a street dance with MIXX will fill Main Street from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
