Rustic Porch to be open next two weekends
WORTHINGTON — Kristin Schmidt, who works full time running a group home at New Dawn, is also the owner of the Rustic Porch, which is located on 212 10th St., above BenLee’s Café.
“I always wanted to own my own business,” said Schmidt. “So one day me and a friend, Debbie Petersen, who is the general manager for BenLee’s, started kicking around ideas about opening up a store in the upstairs part of the restaurant and how it could generate traffic for both our businesses, and here we are.”
The Rustic Porch is a combination of seasonal and everyday rustic home décor.
“I wanted to carry a little of everything and different stuff that you can’t find anywhere else in Worthington,” Schmidt said. “I do have seasonal stuff, so when I’m open in the fall I’ll have more fall/winter items. But I also just sell interesting, everyday home items.”
Due to Schmidt’s busy schedule, the Rustic Porch is only open seasonally. She doesn’t mind that, though.
“I really love my full-time job, and I wasn’t ready to commit to the store being full-time,” she said. “When my store is open, I would rather be the one watching my store and seeing customers rather than to pay someone to do it.”
The Rustic Porch will be open this week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, as well as Nov. 21, 22 and 23. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
In addition to those store hours, Schmidt will also be at the Worthington Christian School for its vendor fair on Saturday.
“For anyone who is looking for a new place to shop in town, The Rustic Porch offers items that can’t be found anywhere else in Worthington,” Schmidt said.
