School referendum effort defeated in Mountain Lake

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Voters in the Mountain Lake school district answered a resounding "no" to a pair of referendum questions Monday night.

The first question, a requisition for a building bond not to exceed $29,020,000, received 921 no votes compared to 230 yes votes. The intent of the bonds would have been to demolish outdated parts of the school building, as well as repair, remodel and upgrade existing school sites and facilities.

A second question, contingent on passage of the first, asked for an additional general obligation bond not to exceed $825,000 for the repair and renovation of the swimming pool and related facilities, as well as for construction and equipping of a band and choir addition. That question received 850 no votes and 297 yes votes.
