Section 2A girls basketball: Fairmont bests JCC; MCW edges Windom Area
ST. JAMES — Jackson County Central’s attempt Tuesday proved much better than the last time it faced Fairmont on the basketball court. This time, the teams played in a South Section 3AA girls basketball game in St. James, and Fairmont picked up a 65-47 win.
The Huskies kept the game close in the first half and Fairmont led by 10 points, at 32-22, at the break. Missed shots through the second half by JCC led to Fairmont widening its lead.
Junior guard Sierra Schultz led Fairmont with 16 points while sophomore Courtney Mosloski tacked on 12 and Kayla Lardy 11. Junior guard Julia Schumann paced the Huskies with 10 points, Kayle Burmeister added nine and Rachel Johnson and Blaney Markman each scored eight.
“We were able to slow it down this time. We got beat by 41 points the last time we played Fairmont,” JCC head coach David Wrightson said. “This one was a lot closer.”
JCC finishes its season at 9-17 while Fairmont advances to face Martin County West in the sub-section final.
“I was very pleased with our effort tonight,” Wrightson added. “We graduate nobody. We have a lot of young kids who are ready to step up and get some minutes.”
