Section 2A wrestling: JCC rolls over Grand Meadow, 57-20
JACKSON — Without a doubt, the level of competition will get steeper Saturday for the Jackson County Central wrestling team when it vies for a state tournament berth. But on Thursday, three forfeited weight classes against Grand Meadow made the Huskies’ advancement from the Section 2A team tourney almost a foregone conclusion.
After Grand Meadow dispatched Medford earlier Thursday to win the right to face JCC, the Huskies dispatched Grand Meadow 57-20.
It was a solid night for the Huskies, but not a great one, said veteran JCC head coach Randy Baker.
“I’d just as soon have another battle,” he said.
He’ll have to wait until Saturday in New Richland, where semifinal matches begin at 2 p.m. with the finals — and a state tournament berth on the line — later in the day at 4 p.m.
“We’ll be ready for the next round,” Baker promised.
On Thursday, JCC’s top wrestlers performed predictably well. Dalton Wagner (26-10 on the season) won by fall in 49 seconds at 113 pounds. Paden Moore (34-3) pinned his foe in 1:39 at 152. Luke Norland (34-3) won by fall in 4:41. And Keegan Moore (36-0) pinned his man in just 53 seconds at 170.
JCC’s Jordan Biehn, who won by forfeit at 126, owns a 31-4 record.
