Section 3A baseball: Huska, Windom Area clip Minneota
SACRED HEART — Windom Area got a stellar pitching performance from Sam Huska and scored in almost every inning Tuesday to advance to the Section 3A semifinals with a 6-1 win over Minneota.
Eagles sophomore Sam Huska allowed just one earned run on three hits in a complete game performance while fanning 12 Viking batters. By the time Minneota finally pushed a run across in the top of the seventh, Windom Area had already taken a 6-0 lead.
“We just constantly kept pressure on with our baserunning and Sam kept things under control on the hill,” Eagles coach Brad Schlomann said.
Jack Mellstrom led Windom Area at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Jeff Pfeffer was 1-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and also swiped two bases. Huska, Bryton Syverson, Andrew Larson and Jacob Gotto also had a hit each. Alec Engler allowed four runs on five hits in the loss for Minneota.
With the win, the Eagles have won nine of their last 10 after a 4-8 start. They’ll try to keep that momentum moving forward in the Section 3A semifinals at noon Saturday against Springfield in Sacred Heart.
