Section 3A Softball: E/SWC softball team is sharp

TRACY -- Tianna Top pitched a pair of complete games Tuesday afternoon, helping the fourth-seeded Edgerton/Southwest Christian Flying Dutchmen claim two victories in the Section 3A South high school softball tournament.

E/SWC earned a 4-3 win over fifth-seeded Adrian Area and then captured a 3-2 win over top-seeded Tracy-Milroy-Balaton to advance into the winners' bracket of the tournament.

Top (eight strikeouts, one walk) pitched around 10 Dutchmen errors in the first game. She also helped her own cause with an RBI single.

Jessica Menning was 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs to lead E/SWC. Breanna Nelson was also 2-for-3.

Rachel Kontz (two strikeouts, three walks) pitched a complete game for AA and also went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Bailey Grussing belted a two-run double for the Dragons.

Top (five strikeouts, four walks) had better defensive support in the second game, as E/SWC committed just one error.

Tanner Gunnink cracked a two-run home run and an RBI double to lead the Dutchmen offensively. Tara DeKam was 2-for-4 and scored two runs.

Jenny Welu (two strikeouts, no walks) pitched a complete game for T-M-B. Alyssa Campbell ripped a two-run single for the Panthers.

E/SWC (13-5) plays Saturday in Cottonwood against an opponent to be determined.

Windom 7, MCC 5; Wabasso 3, Windom 1

WABASSO -- The sixth-seeded Windom Eagles claimed a 7-5 victory over the third-seeded Murray County Central Rebels in the Section 3A South high school softball tournament Tuesday.

Second-seeded Wabasso, which earned a 6-0 win over seventh-seeded Southwestern United, then claimed a 3-1 win over Windom.

Windom's Meghan Vesey pitched a pair of complete games, striking out seven batters and issuing seven walks in 13 innings of work.

The Eagles' Jasmine Carlson, Alyssa Fast and Sutton Dewanz had a base hit in each game.

MCC's Kenda Blomgren went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while Taylor Schreier, Lissa Carlson and Ashley Clarke each had two hits for the Rebels.

Windom (6-11) plays an elimination game Saturday in Cottonwood against an opponent to be determined.
