Section playoffs begin next week for volleyball
Volleyball playoffs begin for some area athletes on Monday in Minnesota, and some of them learned their seeding assignments and pairings on Thursday.
In Section 2A action, Windom Area comes in as the third seed in the section’s south division, and the top five seeds have first round byes in both divisions. Other top seeds in the south section are Martin County West (1), Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial (2), United South Central (4) and St. Clair (5).
Windom Area hosts a second round matchup on Thursday, Oct. 24, against the winner of a Monday night match in Alden between sixth-seeded Alden-Conger and 11th seeded Truman.
First-round Section 2A matches on Monday have Cedar Mountain (11) at Springfield (6), Sleepy Eye (10) at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (7), Nicollet (9) at Cleveland (8), Truman (11) at Alden-Conger (6), Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley (10) at Mountain Lake Area (7) and Madelia (9) at Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (8).
Section 3AA’s south sub-section features Marshall as the top seed. The Tigers will host eighth-seeded Luverne Friday, Oct. 25. All second round matches are the following Tuesday.
Second-seeded Jackson County Central comes in to host seventh-seeded Fairmont Friday. Pipestone Area is the sub-section’s third seed, and the Arrows hosts a first round match next Friday against sixth-seeded St. James Area.
The fourth and fifth seeds, Worthington (4) and New Ulm (5) will face off in Worthington for the first round next Friday.
New London-Spicer comes in as the top-seed in the north division, while Litchfield is seeded second.
In Section 3A volleyball, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton comes in as the first seed in the south sub-section and draws a first round bye, as does second-seeded Southwestern United, third-seeded Murray County Central, and fourth seeded Wabasso. Those second round matchups are set for next Friday night between Luverne and Windom.
In the first round, eighth-seeded Ellsworth hosts ninth-seeded Adrian on Monday evening with the winner playing T-MB in Luverne on Friday. Southwest Christian, seeded fifth in the sub-section, faces a Monday first round matchup on its home floor against 12th seeded Fulda. That game’s winner will go to Luverne next Friday to face Wabasso.
On the bottom of side of the south sub-section in Section 3A, seventh-seeded Westbrook-Walnut Grove hosts Hills-Beaver Creek Monday. The winner goes to Windom on Friday night to face SWU. In Windom, MCC plays the winner of a Monday night match in Jeffers between sixth-seeded Red Rock Central and 11th seeded Edgerton.
