WORTHINGTON — Continuing a tradition that stretches back more than two decades, Worthington Middle School (WMS) music instructors Mike Andersen and Cindy Anderson accompanied several eighth-graders to a March music festival on Wednesday.

The Middle School Festival of Music in Brandon, S.D., hosted students from 24 area South Dakota, Iowa and southwestern Minnesota schools.

Selected participants from the WMS band were Max Langerud, Dale Hansen, Carter Ponto, Taylor McCarvel and Andrew Olsen.

Choir members — all of whom are also part of this year’s Festival Singers ensemble, an auditioned group — included Natalie Demuth, Jessica Darling, Jamie Newman, Fairy Blu, Jacob Prunty and Nathan Schuck.

“This is always a wonderful opportunity for the kids to sing and play with other students who have been identified by their directors as the best in their schools,” said Cindy Anderson.

The WMS choirs are preparing for their May 1-2 spring concert at Memorial Auditorium, while the WMS bands will perform April 14, also at Memorial Auditorium.
