Joann Christina Hegwer, 83, was riding in a 2012 Honda when it was struck by an oncoming vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other people were transported to Sanford Worthington Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

The accident happened at 1:07 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of McCall Avenue and Nobles County 25 near Reading.

Mary Vold, Mason City, Iowa, was driving the Accord north when it turned in front of the other vehicle, a 2013 GMC Yukon Denali driven by Kandace Rust, Magnolia, which was traveling south. Lindsay Lonneman was the passenger in the Denali.

“It appears the Vold vehicle turned in front of the Rust vehicle,” Nobles County Sheriff Kent Wilkening said.

According to Wilkening, Vold is Hegwer’s daughter.

“She had taken her out for a drive,” Wilkening said.

The Nobles County Sheriff’s Department, Wilmont Rescue Squad, Reading Responders, the Sanford Ambulance and Minnesota State Patrol all responded to the accident.

Visitation for Hegwer is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Benson Funeral Home, Worthington. The service is at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Worthington.
