Sievert claims gold at Siouxland cross country

SIBLEY, Iowa —MOC-Floyd Valley finished atop both sides of the Siouxland Conference cross country meet Thursday afternoon in Sibley.

The Dutchmen placed five girls and three boys among the top 10 individuals for both races to win its team titles.

Sibley-Ocheyedan was unable to take away team placings on either side of the meet. Central Lyon/George-Little Rock was last in both team races while Sheldon’s boys finished sixth and its girls were fourth.

S-O senior Leah Sievert finished off a conference championship on her home course and turned in an effort of 13:44.7 in the 4K race. Her teammate, Makayla Tangeman, joined her in the top 10 with a 15:33.4 finish for eighth place.

Sheldon was led by a 10th place race from Emma Van Meeteren.

CL/G-LR’s Josh Schriever claimed fourth place in the boys race individually, crossing the line in 17:21.2. Dalton Van Briesen and Ben Conway were 38th and 39th respectively for the Lions.

Andy Taverna placed 10th with a time of 18:08.4 for S-O. Sheldon’s Mark Ahlers led the Orabs in eighth place (17:52.1).

Behind MOC-Floyd Valley in the boys team standings were Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, Okoboji, Sioux Center, West Lyon, Sheldon, and Central Lyon/G-LR. In the girls standings, the Dutchmen were trailed by Sioux Center, Okoboji, Sheldon, B-H/RV, and CL/G-LR.
