SOUTHERN CONFEDERACY CONFERENCE FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: E/E wins conference title outright; H-BC's Bass runs for 215 in win
EDGERTON -- It was a balanced attack for the Edgerton/Ellsworth football team against Truman on Wednesday night.
But when the dust cleared, the Flying Dutchmen earned a 70-6 victory to win the Southern Confederacy Conference outright.
E/E, which is ranked No. 1 in the state, had a 37-0 lead after the first quarter and tallied 21 more points in the second.
Meanwhile, the Dutchmen defense was suffocating the Bluejays, holding them to negative 10 yards in the first half.
E/E finished with 486 yards of total offense (140 passing and 346 rushing), while Truman had 92 total yards in the game.
Isaac Heard was 6-for-8 passing for 140 yards and three touchdowns.
Devin Hulstein had three receptions for 100 yards, while Casey Schilling caught two passes for 28 yards.
In a balanced ground game, Derek Voge had five rushes for 43 yards, while Omar Lopez had one rush for 45 yards. Tyler Kurrasch carried the ball three times for 32 yards, while Johnny Menning had a rush for 36 yards.
Heard had a 33-yard touchdown toss to Hulstein before he found Schilling from five yards out for a score. Voge also caught a nine-yard touchdown in the game.
Blake Jouwstra started the scoring for E/E with a two-yard run, while Hulstein added a 15-yard run to pay dirt.
Austin LaFollette had a five-yard touchdown scamper, while Nate Paulsen had a three-yard score.
Wade Gunnink scored from 10 yards out, while Mitch Leuthold (five yard) and Kurrasch (15 yard) each scored in the game for E/E.
Menning finished with five tackles and two sacks, while Andy Menning had eight total stops. Dan Kremer added an interception for the Dutchmen defense.
E/E (8-0) will host a first-round playoff game on Tuesday night.

HILLS -- Dalton Bass ran for 215 yards and scored three times, leading Hills-Beaver Creek to a conference victory against Westbrook-Walnut Grove.
Bass had touchdown runs of 33, 30 and 18 yards as he averaged more than 15 yards per carry while rushing a mere 14 times on the night.
Taylor Leuthold had a two-yard touchdown run, while Tate Bork scored on a 43-yard run.
Taylor Reese caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Larson for the Patriots' other score.
Larson finished 6-for-11 passing for 50 yards. Reese caught three balls for 36 yards.
Leuthold had nine carries for 55 yards, while Bork had eight carries for 49 yards as H-BC (7-1) ran for 323 yards on 41 carries on the night.
Defensively, Leuthold had 10 tackles and a sack, while Bork, Ryan Reit and Zach Wagenaar each had a quarterback sack.
Caleb Schroer and Jeff Sandbulte each made nine tackles, while Larson and Seth Nuffer each had an interception on the night.
Both teams will open Section 3 playoffs on Tuesday night.
