Minnesota West's Gehl named MCAC Southern Division Player of the Week

WORTHINGTON -- Minnesota West Lady Jays forward Tiffany Gehl was named the Minnesota College Athletic Conference Southern Division Player of the Week for her performance last week.

Gehl, a 5-foot-11 inch freshman from Fulda averaged 24.5 points and five rebounds in two games last week, including a 29-point performance Saturday against Minnesota State-Fergus Falls. Gehl made 47 percent of her shots, while going 14 of 18 at the free-throw line.

This is the second time this season a Lady Jays player was named Player of the Week. The first one was Brittany Hulstein in Week 4.

The Lady Jays are back in action tonight when they host Western Technical College at 6 p.m. in the first game of a women's/men's basketball doubleheader.

Ferguson, Bush, Tanner compete

at Briar Cliff Wrestling Invitational

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The Minnesota West Bluejays wrestling team took three wrestlers to the Briar Cliff Invitational on Saturday.

Jerrell Ferguson (184 pounds) finished with the best record on the weekend, going 1-2 in three duals, while John Bush (125) and Mike Tanner (149) went winless in two matches.

The Bluejays are back in action at 10 a.m. Sunday in Willmar at the NJCAA North Central District Tournament.

Schwartz, Michelson help T-M-B/W-WG in dual wrestling loss against BOLD

TRACY -- Sterling Schwartz and Tanner Michelson won their matches with a pin and a decision, respectively, during a 53-21 loss to BOLD on Friday.

Schwartz used 3 minutes, 12 seconds to pin Derik Lother, while Michelson defeated Martin Minkel by a 3-2 decision. T-M-B/W-WG's Nash Mayer and Logan Axford were also winners, both by forfeit.

The Panthers host Adrian Area in a dual at 6 p.m. Thursday.
