WILMONT -- Luke Drooger knocked in two runs and allowed just one run to score in two innings on the mound to help the Worthington VFW defeat Tyler 7-6 Monday.

The game was scoreless through three innings before both teams erupted for five runs in the fourth. Worthington took the lead in the sixth with two runs and Tyler was only able to muster one run in the seventh.

Nate Russell started the game for Worthington, pitching the first five innings and giving up eight hits while striking out seven batters.

Blake Faufkee (RBI), Torey Rogers and Brandon Veen all had two hits for Worthington.

Worthington (13-6, 5-2) travels to Redwood Thursday.

16U team 2-2 in Sioux Falls

The Worthington 16U girls softball team split four games in a weekend tournament in Sioux Falls. The Storm lost 9-7 to Madison, S.D., and 7-2 to Dakota Valley on Saturday, then defeated Madison 5-0 and Dakota Valley 7-6 on Sunday.
