SSC students reach food drive goals
OKABENA -- Students in the Heron Lake-Okabena school district have surpassed their goals in collecting food items and money for the Heron Lake/Okabena Food Shelf.
As of Monday afternoon, students had collected 8,223 items, surpassing their original goal of 2,000 items. The items were presented to the food shelf Wednesday afternoon at Southwest Star Concept High School. Several teachers volunteered to shave or dye their hair, or sing karaoke, as a reward for the students' efforts.
