State Golf Tournament: Local golfers gear up for state meet
Winning a golf tournament is never easy, but the Murray County Central Rebels might have made it look that way on May 29 in the Section 3A boys meet.
The Rebels won the meet by 38 strokes over second-place Springfield.
The stakes are higher today as MCC enters state tournament action at the Pebble Creek Golf Club east of St. Cloud. The two-day event begins at the same time Class A golfers tee off at Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan.
The MCC boys will vie against rival teams from Wabasha-Kellogg, United South Central, Legacy Christian Academy, Dawson-Boyd, Mahnomen, Mille Lacs and Kittson County Central. Individual qualifiers from MCC include seniors Devin Erickson, Ben Loosbrock and Aaron Boock, sophomores Adam Christensen and Grant Everson, and seventh grader Tyler Groves.
Area Section 3A individuals to qualify for the boys state tournament are senior Dana Madson of Westbrook-Walnut Grove, senior Kyle Wendland of Southwest United, sophomore Ben Henning of Adrian and senior Todd Peterson of Fulda.
Individual Section 3A girl qualifiers are freshman Abby Herding of Westbrook-Walnut Grove and sophomore Katie Wieneke of Adrian.
Worthington Trojan senior Kate Lesnar will compete in the Class AA girls competition for the third consecutive year. She tied for fourteenth place last year as a junior.
Jackson County Central freshman Abby Brinkman also qualified from Section 3AA for girls state competition.
