State Patrol plans upped enforcement

MARSHALL — Fatal and injury crashes are increasing and the trajectory is continuing, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
In an effort to reverse the trend, the agency is implementing enhanced enforcement plans in each of 11 State Patrol Districts statewide now through December.

In southwest Minnesota, two-thirds of recent fatalities had distracted driving as the major factor. Statewide statistics show these serious crashes are predominately on rural highways and/or improved county two-lane roads. An alarming number of the occupants involved were unbelted.Saturations will be conducted on secondary two-lane highways and roadways through the end of the year, focusing on distracted driving, seatbelt use, speed and impaired driving.
