State volleyball: Marshall wins another state championship
SAINT PAUL — The Marshall volleyball team made history Saturday at the state volleyball tournament.
Set scores in the final match were 25-13, 25-19, 25-16.
Marshall senior Kenzie Beekman paced her Tigers with 25 kills and two blocks. Marshall’s Sydney Griffin had 25 set assists.
Senior libero Hannah Bennett collected 22 digs, Beekman grabbed 15, and senior Stephanie Baker had 13. Rachel Sanow finished with 11.
The Tigers ironed out their third straight sweep in the state tournament Saturday. Marshall punched its ticket to the final by sweeping Mora and Fergus Falls while Hill-Murray outlasted Dassel-Cokato and Kasson-Mantorville along its state tournament trip.
Marshall’s three blemishes in the regular season came to AAA teams Lakeville North, Chaska, and Blaine.
Marshall finished with a Southwest Conference championship this fall.
The Tigers defeated Luverne, Worthington and Jackson County Central in Section 3AA to advance to the state tournament.
In Class A state tournament action, Chaska’s Southwest Christian defeated top-seeded Fillmore Central in a sweep for the state championship.
Minneota claimed third place in this year’s state tournament, defeating Win-E-Mac in the consolation final tilt. The Vikings finish at 31-4.
