STINGRAYS: Three Stingrays' swimmers add events for Regional Meet
WORTHINGTON -- The Worthington YMCA Stingrays participated in a meet against the Mankato YMCA Marlins, Winona and St. Cloud over the weekend.
Forty-three of Worthington's 56 swimmers earned personal best times in at least one of their individual events.
Although the Stingrays didn't add any swimmers to the list of those who will compete at the Regional Meet at the end of March, three Worthington swimmers did add an event to their list of races.
Ten-year-old Blaine Doeden added the 50 butterfly after cutting 1.53 seconds from his time. He finished in first place in that event with a time of 40.78 seconds. Doeden also won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 48.01 seconds.
Cameron Jenson, 13 years old, added the 100 freestyle to his list of events he'll compete in at the Regional Meet. Jenson won the race with a time of 1 minute, 2.03 seconds, cutting .85 seconds off his personal best time. Jenson also won the 200 free with a time of 2:21.91.
The final swimmer to add a Regional event at the meet was 14-year-old Oliver Wolyniec. He added the 200 breaststroke after he cut 4.35 seconds from his previous best. He won the race in a time of 2:48.99. Wolyniec also won the 50 free (26.45) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.82).
Numerous other swimmers earned first-place finishes at the Stingrays' meet on Saturday.
Porter Elsing won the 50 fly (41.72) and the 100 freestyle (1:18.23). Tori Elsing won the 100 IM with a time of 1:23.84.
Sammy Farra won the 50 freestyle with a time of 47.67. Kyle Janssen won the 50 backstroke with a time of 47.37 seconds.
Sarah Janssen won the 100 fly with a time of 1:23.13. Nathan Johnson won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 43.43 seconds.
Sarah Meiser won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:36.42. Madison Neuberger won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:24.75.
Hannah Rahn won both the 50 freestyle (34.89) and the 50 breaststroke (46.62). Brittany Saulsgiver won the 200 fly with a time of 3:29.01.
Matt Sorensen won all three of his events; the 50 freestyle (25.91), the 100 freestyle (58.93) and the 100 breaststroke (1:20.41).
Six Worthington relay teams also took home first place finishes.
In the Girls 8 & Under Medley, Gabrielle Chapulis, Taylor Pronto, Sophie Wietzema and Ivy Jenson won with a time of 1:52.24.
In the Girls 14 & Under 200 Medley, Worthington's Meredith Moore, Tori Elsing, Neuberger and Rach Koller won with a time of 2:31.40.
In the Boys 14 & Under 200 Medley, Bryan Doeden, Johnson, Justine Paulzine and Eli Gaul won with a time of 2:32.85.
In the Boys 15 & Over 200 Medley, the Stingrays' Levi Blanchard, Wolyniec, Cameron Jenson and Sorenson won with a time of 2:15.43.
In the Boys 14 & Under 200 Free Relay, Porter Elsing, Gaul, Paulzine and Bryan Doeden won with a time of 2:08.68.
And in the Boys 15 & Over 200 Free Relay, Wolyniec, Cameron Jenson, Blanchard and Sorenson took first with a time of 1:51.83.
The Stingrays' will travel to Austin on Saturday to compete in their final regular season meet. The swimmers will be competing in the events they will be racing in at the Sectional Meet, which takes place on January 28.
