The award acknowledges the achievements of the agency in developing creative approaches to preserving and developing rental projects throughout Southern Minnesota. The agency led the way in rural Minnesota to implement green technology in the Viking Terrace Apartments in Worthington. The project created long-term energy savings in addition to providing a healthier living environment for the tenants, and has received national attention in promoting green technology in housing.

Since its inception in 1992, the Partnership has grown from serving 14 counties to 27 counties in southwest and south central Minnesota.

In addition to Viking Terrace, the agency also developed Willow Court Townhomes in Worthington. The agency has also partnered with the Southwest Minnesota Opportunity Council and the City of Worthington to undertake substantial housing and commercial rehabilitation activities. The Small Cities Development Grant completed in fall 2007 rehabilitated 31 rental units, 21 owner occupied units, and 24 commercial units.

The Department of Employment and Economic Development recently announced that Worthington, Round Lake and Wilmont were awarded funding that will rehabilitate an additional 25 owner occupied and 9 rental units in the three communities.
