Trojan band marches on to Chamberlain, Anoka
WORTHINGTON -- The Worthington High School (WHS) Trojan marching band continued its winning ways last Saturday as it finished second overall among a competitive field at the Sioux Falls, S.D., 2012 Festival of Bands USA event.
With the 120-member ensemble stepping in time to its "Over the Rooftops" parade show, which features a medley of tunes from the musical "Mary Poppins," the Trojans earned a score of 88.7 points. They captured the highest point totals in the categories of visual performance, percussion and color guard, as well.
The Trojans were among six bands -- including Brandon Valley, Brookings, Yankton, Stewartville and Waseca -- competing in Class AAA, and they were topped only by the Waseca High School Band, which finished with an overall score of 90.10.
In all, 30 bands participated in the Festival of Bands USA last Saturday.
Still to come for the marching Trojans this season is the 13th annual River City Band Festival on Saturday in Chamberlain, S.D., and the Anoka Halloween Parade on Oct. 27. The Worthington band, under the direction of Jon Loy, hopes to defend its first-place title at each of those events.
