WORTHINGTON -- Drilling six 3-pointers on his way to 21 points Thursday night, Mike Vorwald also dished out eight assists to orchestrate the Worthington Trojans to a 76-56 victory over the Windom Eagles in the nightcap of a Southwest Conference doubleheader.

"We certainly needed this win tonight," Trojans head coach Ron Vorwald said following the game. "The guys had redemption on their minds, as they were ready to play. They played with passion."

Worthington bounced back nicely after a tough overtime (73-65) loss to Jackson County Central on Tuesday, as the Trojans used a 12-4 run late in the first half to turn a 21-all tie with 3:17 left into a 33-25 halftime advantage.

Mike Vorwald fired in his second 3-pointer of the night before Adou Omot -- off a perfectly-executed flex cut and pass from Kent Knutson -- knocked down a shot from the left elbow to give the Trojans to a 26-21 lead.

After a layup by Windom's Jesse Behrens (11 points), Quentin Dudley (22 points, eight rebounds) hit a jumper from the right elbow off the flex before scoring again after a steal by Vorwald, giving the Trojans a 30-23 lead.

Eric VandeHoef (13 points) answered with a bucket for Windom, but Vorwald connected on another 3-pointer with 18 seconds left to give the Trojans a 33-25 edge at the break.

Windom cut the lead to five (35-30) early in the second half as Behrens hit a free throw, Michael Johnson (23 points) made a layup, and VandeHoef scored inside to counter a 15-footer from Dudley.

Worthington's Joe Ahrens responded with two straight baskets before Vorwald found Dudley on a beautiful pick-and-roll play, and Omot pulled up from 15 feet on the baseline to score -- helping Worthington to its first double-digit lead (43-32) with 14:21 left in the game.

The lead was later increased to 20 points (59-39) with 9:52 left, as Vorwald hit two more 3-pointers and continued to find teammates for scores.

Worthington -- which outrebounded the Eagles, 33-19 -- then scored seven straight points to build its largest lead of the game (66-39) with 7:50 remaining, as Vorwald's sixth 3-pointer was sandwiched between buckets from Omot and Travis Meinders to trigger the Trojans.

Windom rallied to within 18 points (70-52) with three minutes left, but couldn't get any closer.

"We really got after them defensively," coach Vorwald said. "We settled down offensively as the game progressed, and finished our shots better in the second half."

Worthington (4-5, 8-9) visits Marshall Tuesday, while Windom (0-9, 6-12) hosts MCC the same night.
