FAIRMONT -- Allison Kremer scored both goals for the Worthington Trojans in a 10-2 loss to the Fairmont Cardinals in the opening round of Class A Girls Hockey Sectional Tournament Friday.

The Trojans got on the board first when Kremer scored with less that 2 minutes left in the first period to give Worthington a 1-0 lead.

However, it was a short-lived because the Cardinals rebounded with three straight goals in the last 90 seconds of the opening frame to make it 3-1 in favor of Fairmont.

The Cardinals added four more goals in the second period to increase their lead to six after two periods.

Kremer scored again in the third for her second of the night, but Fairmont put another three goals past Amanda Bristow to make it 10-2.

The Trojans end their season with a record of 1-17-1. The Cardinals will take on the Luverne Cardinals Tuesday in the semifinals.

HUTCHINSON -- Skyler Wenninger and Chaz Smedsrud both scored a pair of goals for the Luverne Cardinals in a victory against the Hutchinson Tigers Friday in a nonconference boys hockey game.

Wenninger opened up the scoring 1 minute, 23 seconds into the first period on a pass from Connor Hoffman that got past Tigers goalie Kellyn Buss. Smedsrud put another puck in the net four minutes later to give the Cardinals a two-goal advantage with 12 minutes left to play in the first. Gunnar Olson picked up an assist on the goal.

Wenninger notched his second of the night with seven minutes left in the first to give the Cardinals a 3-0 lead. Hoffman also assisted on Wenninger's second goal.

The Tigers scored their only goal of the game 5 minutes, 41 seconds into the second period on a shot from Tory Adams, with an assists going to Matthew Cowger.

Olson gave the Cardinals back their three-goal lead with his unassisted goal at the 3:38 mark of the second period.

Smedsrud scored again just under 5 minutes into the third on the power-play to extend Luverne's lead to four with 12 minutes left to play. Austin Maxwell and Jonny Solma assisted on the goal.

Kendall Meyer made 22 saves on 23 shots for the Cardinals, while Buss stopped 23 shots out of 28.

The Cardinals (18-4-1) travels to Breckenridger/Wahpeton today.
