WORTHINGTON -- The Iowa Lake Lakers women's soccer team announced 15 new signees Wednesday, including Worthington midfielder Dayana Fuentes.

"Dayana is a speedy midfielder with a lot of heart and desire," Lakers head coach Ammon Bennett said. "She is a very hard worker and will add a lot of depth to our team. We look forward to getting her here on campus in early August when we start training."

Fuentes was one of 16 seniors who played their final season for the Trojans last fall. She was instrumental in Worthington's 2-0 win over Glencoe-Silver Lake, assisting on one of two goals by Ana Castillo, while also getting a pair of chances herself.

The Trojans finished the season 2-11-1.

Iowa Lakes also signed players from Utah and Alberta, Canada, to help bolster their roster for the coming year.

"We are so excited at the new group of athletes that will be joining our team; the quality of the individuals - both as students and athletes - is just simply awesome," Bennett said. "We were able to address and commit every position that we needed; from the keeper position to defenders, midfielders and forwards; literally across the board, this is a very good recruiting class. These young women, along with the returning group of sophomores, will make up a very fine team."

The Lakers advanced to the region championship game last season and ended the season with a 15-6 overall record.

"We feel we have made significant strides with this group of athletes. The quality of the high schools attended by these players and the club experience they have will go a long way," Bennett said. "We also feel we will have improved on our overall depth which will help for a lot of inter squad competition."

In the 2013 season, Iowa Lakes will face nationally ranked Laramie County, North Idaho College, Oakton, Iowa Western and Iowa Central.
