Trojan Golf: Lesnar leads WHS golfers
WORTHINGTON --Kate Lesnar's 38 led the way for a 181-192 Worthington High School girls golf victory over Redwood Valley on a warm and pleasant Friday afternoon.
Like the weather, WHS head coach Ron Wood was in a warm mood as well.
"We finally brought our score where needs to be at 181," he said.
Wood, who also praised his boy golfers despite winding up on the losing side of a 159-166 score, said his girls team could break the 180 mark --even push their scores into the mid-170s --when they "hit on all cylinders."
As it was, McKenzie Hurley helped Friday's cause with a 44. Teammates Tyree Murray (48), Morgan Harberts (51), Genna Putnam (52) and Kia Veen (56) followed.
With Friday's result at the Prairie View Golf Links, Worthington's girls finished the Southwest Conference season with a 3-3 record. The boys moved to 1-5.
Three Cardinals shared medalist honors on the boys' side, with Adam Hengel, Alec Koster and Derek Bebeau all shooting 39.
For the Trojans, Tyler VanHove and Alex Kremer led the way with 41s. Seth Meier and Jacob Weg were at 42, and Jake Woll had a 44. Wood singled out the freshman, VanHove, for a performance that showed future promise, and also the fact that all of his boy golfers stayed within a few strokes of each other.
Worthington competes again on Monday at Fulda.
