"Both teams scored really well for us even though this is their first meet of the season," WHS coach Ron Wood said. "The girls' score was really good for any time of the year, let alone their first game. I'm also really pleased with the boys' scores."

The girls shot a 185 as a team, while Western Christian hit a 227. Kate Lesnar (40) and Morgan Harberts (45) were the low medalists in the girls meet. McKenzie Hurley scored a 48, and Genna Putnam hit a 52 to round out the Trojans top four counting scores. Tyree Murray had a 54 to go along with Kia Veen's 55 on the day for Worthington.

"I am really excited for this girls' team," Wood said. "We have four seniors who have really become the backbone of this team. If we can get three girls scoring in the 40s every match we will be very competitive in the conference."

The boys' team scored a 159 overall, but Western Christian was able to hit one point better (158) to deny the Trojan boys their first win of the season.

"We had three really outstanding scores from our guys today, especially for their first time out on the course," Wood said. "It was a good day for the boys even though they lost."

Western Christian's Taylor Kooi was the low medalist on the boys' side, scoring a 38. Seth Meier, Will Mulder and Jacob Woll all hit 39s to pace the Trojans, while Jacob Weg hit a 42 to round out the scoring players.

"We had six really decent scores today," Wood said. "If we can keep this up all season we will be able to be competitive in the conference in the boys division as well."

The Trojans (girls 1-0, boys 0-1) picked up an extra match today at Prairie View where they will compete in a quadrangle against Southwestern United, Southwest Christian and Adrian.

Fulda's Cole Dierks had the low score in the meet (40) followed by Southwestern United's Kyle Wendland (45). Tanner Paulsen had the lowest score for H-BC with a 55.
