Trojan Golf: WHS golfers sweep Fulda
FULDA -- Jacob Woll and Morgan Harberts paced the Worthington Trojan boys' and girls' golf teams to a sweep of the Fulda Raiders Monday.
"I'm pleased with how both the boys and girls played today," WHS coach Ron Wood said. "The wind was a big factor today and we were able to play through it to get the win."
On the boys' side, the Trojans shot a 165 as a team while the Raiders scored a 186.
Woll led Worthington with a 39 to grab low medalist honors, followed by Alex Kremer (41), Seth Meier (42) and Jacob Weg (43) to round out the Trojans' top four finishers. Zach Heidebrink shot a 44 and Will Mulder finished with a 45 on the day for Worthington.
"I was happy with how Jacob [Woll] and Alex [Kremer] played today," Wood said. "They really brought their games and were able to get back to where I've expected them to be."
Fulda was led by Todd Peterson (42), while Cole Dierks finished second for the Raiders with a 44. Aaron Hulstein (49) and Brandon Everett (51) rounded out the scoring for the Raiders.
On the girls' side, Worthington finished with a 189 to claim first, followed by Fulda's team score of 195.
Harberts earned the low medal with a 43 on the day for the Trojans, followed by Kate Lesnar (45), McKenzie Hurley (51), and Tyree Murray (53). Genna Putnam shot a 53 while Kia Veen had a 56 to round out the golfers for Worthington.
"Morgan picked a good day to come out of her slump," Wood said. "Her score was a real turning point for us in the meet today."
The Raiders were led by Madeline Westra's 47, while Katie Reynolds and Brittany Leinen finished tied for second on the team with 48s. Caitlin Strenge (52) and Marissa Kunerth (53) rounded out Fulda's top finishers.
The Trojans are back in action Thursday when they host Southwestern United and Mountain Lake Area at Prairie View Golf Course.
Luverne boys, Adrian girls win
ADRIAN -- The Luverne boys and the Adrian girls' golf teams finished in first place during a meet Monday.
The Cardinals shot a 166 as a team in the boys' division, while the Dragons finished with a 182. The Eagles of Southwest Christian took third with a 210.
Ben Henning led Adrian with a 42, while Luverne's Matthew Sterrett was the low medalist with a 39. SWC was led by Tadd Van't Hof's 46.
Adrian won with a 191 for the girls, followed by Luverne's 198.
The Dragon's Marissa Veld was the low medalist after shooting a 44, followed by the Cardinals' Emilee Johnson (45).
SWU faces off with MLA
MOUNTAIN LAKE -- The Southwestern United golf teams took on Mountain Lake Area Monday,
For the boys' Kyle Wendland shot a 49 for SWU, while Aaron Walzak scored a 38 for MLA.
On the girls' side, Kailey Wendland shot a 50 for the Wildcats, while the Wolverines had just one golfer compete.
