TROJAN WRESTLING: Trojans win fourth straight dual
SIBLEY -- The Worthington wrestling team won its fourth straight dual meet after slipping past Sibley-Ocheyedan 35-33 on Tuesday.
The Trojans, who are 7-10 overall, established a 21-0 lead before holding off the Generals (8-6) at the end.
At 106, Ethan Pavelko handed Worthington a 6-0 lead after receiving a forfeit. It became 9-0 Trojans when Hser Eh Pwae (113) outlasted Damon Monier during an 8-6 decision in overtime.
At 120, Hser Moo Pwae pinned Wade Dimmitt in 3 minutes, 18 seconds as Worthington went ahead 15-0. The Trojans took a 21-point margin after Anthony Luft (126) was awarded a forfeit.
But Sibley-Ocheyedan won the next four weight classes to tie the match at 21.
Kyle Green (132) pinned Cody Michelson in 5:57, Cole Hieronimus (138) pinned Zach Bruns in 3:08 and Tyler Reck (145) pinned King Saenz in 1:44 as the Generals scored 18 straight points.
Tyler O'Connor (152) posted a 6-4 decision against Joey Mills as Sibley-Ocheyedan rebounded to force a 21-all deadlock.
The Trojans and Generals split the final six bouts, but Worthington was able to secure the win behind Zach Kempema (pin), Blake Schroeder (technical fall) and Carson Hagen (decision). Sibley-Ocheydan countered with Dylan Brockshus (pin), Nic Salinas (decision) and Houston Coleman (decision).
At 160, Kempema pinned Andrew Brockshus in 3:53 before Schroeder (170) scored a 20-5 technical fall over Chris DeNoble.
At 182, Dylan Brockshus pinned Virgil Cerda in 5:42, but Hagen (195) shut out Jose Olvera 5-0.
The Generals won the final two bouts, but could only claim decisions. Salinas (220) edged Ty Veen 3-2 and Houston Coleman (285) topped Peter Abraham 2-1.
Worthington wrestles at the Fairmont/Martin County West Invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Trojans travel to take on Redwood Valley in a Southwest Conference dual Tuesday.
