Truck breaks through ice

ROUND LAKE -- A vehicle went through the ice on Round Lake early Wednesday.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Lukas Robert DeWall, 18, of Okabena, was driving a 2001 Dodge pickup truck when it went through the ice at 12:15 a.m. Wednesday on Round Lake.

DeWall was able to safely get out of the truck through the driver's side window prior to the truck becoming totally submerged. He stood on the truck and then jumped to secure ice.

The spot where DeWall broke through the ice has been marked with four small A-framed barricades.

Jackson County Sheriff Roger Hawkinson issued a warning about the ever-changing conditions of the ice on area lakes and encouraged people to use extreme caution when venturing onto the ice.
