MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Officials at the University of Minnesota have lifted a warning for students to take shelter after man with a gun tried to rob a student on campus.

University police say the armed man tried to rob a student of her laptop in Anderson Hall on the West Bank of the Minneapolis campus Monday before fleeing into the tunnel system between buildings.

The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/1divyqj) reports police say the gun was not fired.

After the attempted robbery, the university sent a text alert at 3:20 p.m. Monday warning students on the West Bank to stay in a safe place. The alert was lifted about an hour later.

A university Tweet says police believe the suspect has left campus. All regular classes and activities will continue as planned.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Officials at the University of Minnesota have sent a text alert warning students about a man armed with a gun after an attempted robbery on campus.

The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/1divyqj ) reports the man was seen at Anderson Hall on the West Bank of the Minneapolis campus.

A university spokesman says a gunman tried to rob a student. It's unknown if shots were fired or if anyone was hurt.

People on the West Bank campus are being asked to seek shelter.

Campus police say they are searching for a man with a gun. The man is described as black, 20 years old, 6 feet tall and wearing a black, puffy, hooded jacket.

The alert was sent at 3:20 p.m. Monday.

This afternoon, an attempted armed robbery of a student occurred in Anderson Hall on the University of Minnesota's West Bank campus. The suspect displayed a gun in an attempt to steal a laptop. The suspect then fled and is currently at large. He is described as an African American male, approximately age 20, six feet tall, wearing a black puffy hooded jacket. Police are currently searching for the suspect. People are asked to call 911 if the suspect is seen. Those on the West Bank campus should shelter in place until further notice.
