VFW: Worthington clubs Marshall Orange

MARSHALL -- Some sterling pitching and timely hitting helped the Worthington VFW baseball team to an 11-5 victory over Marshall Orange Friday in the Marshall Tournament.

Worthington, now 15-7 on the season, continues action today with a 1 p.m. game against Alexandria and a 4 p.m. game against Sioux Falls East.

Nate Russell pitched four innings for Worthington and got the win, allowing four hits while walking five and striking out four. Luke Drooger pitched the final three innings, walking none and striking out three. Drooger entered the game in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and nobody out and proceeded to strike out the side.

Russell went 4-for-5 for Worthington with a double. Trevor Wietzema had a double and a triple and Logan Thuringer tripled and stole three bases. Drooger was 2-for-2 at the plate.
