'Victim' faces charges
ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- A man who reported being the victim of a robbery on Monday in Lyon County has now been charged with two counts of false reporting in Lyon County.
In a report to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, Aaron Abels claimed that at approximately 1:25 a.m. Monday he was traveling on Lyon County A-18 when he spotted a dark red Ford SUV with its hazard lights activated, and a female was standing beside the vehicle. When Abels stopped and asked what the problem was, a male came up from behind and took his debit card. The couple then left the scene in the SUV.
On Tuesday evening, Abels confessed to making the story up and was arrested. He posted a $1,000 cash bond and was released.
