Viola Ida Schweikert

Viola Ida Schweikert passed away on 28 June 2013, in New Brighton, MN at age 103 years. She was born on 25 July 1909 in Glencoe, MN, to August & Clara Brecht. In 1929 she married Rev. George Schweikert. They had 4 children: John (d.1930); Mary Louise Thorpe (d.1999); Daniel of Park City, UT; and Timothy of Coon Rapids, MN. Viola is survived by 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Heeding Viola’s urgings regarding higher education, her descendants have received 11 Bachelor’s degrees, 3 Master’s, 1 JD, 1 PhD, and soon, 1 MD, a record she took great pride in.

Viola moved with her husband to Lutheran pastorates at: Cass Lake, MN, 1927; St. John’s LC, Okabena, MN, 1937; East Grand Forks, MN, 1957; & Rochester, NY, 1960, where he died in 1965. Viola provided sympathy, comfort, encouragement, and praise to hundreds of individuals during those years. She was a church organist at each of these churches.

Viola worked in the Monroe College library in Rochester, 1962-79. In 1995 she moved back to MN, remaining lively and mobile well past her 100th birthday. Viola was buried in Cass Lake.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm, 9 August 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, 460 75th Ave NE, Fridley, MN 55432.
