Walz given award for advocacy
WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Tim Walz has been awarded the L. Mendel Rivers Award by the Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) for his strong leadership and advocacy for veterans, members of the Air Force and Armed Forces.
The award is considered the AFSA’s “Legislator of the Year” award and is named after the late Rep. L. Mendel Rivers, a former Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee.
“I am honored and humbled to have been chosen by the Air Force Sergeants Association as the legislator of the year,” said Walz, a member of the Veterans Affairs Committee and the highest ranking enlisted soldier to ever serve in Congress. “Southern Minnesota has a rich history of caring for our warriors. This award says much about the values we hold dear: that we must always honor the sacred vow to promote opportunity for our nation’s heroes and ensure they have the care and support they have earned when they get home.”
The Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) is a federally chartered non-profit organization with over 100,000 members representing the professional and personal interests of active duty, retired and veteran Total Air Force and their families.
