Wells Fargo scam hits Worthington

WORTHINGTON - A scam that was reported recently in Sioux Falls, S.D. has made its way to Worthington, according to Worthington Police Department Det. Sgt. Kevin Flynn.

"A Worthington resident called the police department this morning to advise she had received a scam telephone call regarding the Wells Fargo scam," Flynn stated Thursday.

In the phone call, people are told their Wells Fargo credit or debit card needs to be reinstated. The person is then asked to enter their credit card number and personal information number (PIN) to reactivate the card. The reasons for the card needing reactivation vary, but authorities warn citizens not to give out the information.

More than 25 people in Sioux Falls have reported receiving calls to the police, and according to one report, the calls have been traced back through caller ID to Minot, N.D.
