WHS GYMNASTICS: Svalland finishes 8th on vault at state meet

MINNEAPOLIS -- Worthington gymnast Tara Svalland competed in four events at the state tournament over the weekend, but fell short of receiving a medal.

Her best finish came on the vault, where she took eighth place with a 9.4. Svalland finished 13th on the balance beam with an 8.975, 24th on the floor exercise with a 9.1 and 20th in the all-around with a 35.55.

"I couldn't have asked for anything better than what she gave," WHS head coach Joni Reitmeier said. "She performed up to her potential and she did wonderful. I am so proud of her."

Jackson County Central also had three gymnasts compete in the individual tournament.

Sydnee Donnelli finished 15th in the all-around with a 35.975, on the floor exercise she took 12th with a 9.3, 24th on the balance beam with an 8.625, 21st on the bars with an 8.675 and finished 11th on the vault with a 9.375.

Brandi Sether-Hassing finished 17th in the all-around with a 35.7, she took 29th on the floor with an 8.85 and 24th on bars with an 8.475. Her beam routine -- which she didn't qualify for, but competed in to go toward her all-around score -- received a 9.525, which would've taken second-place overall if she had qualified at sections for that apparatus.

JCC's Adriane Rentschler took 18th on the beam with an 8.775 and 28th on the bars with an 8.325.
