WHS Gymnastics: WHS outduels Windom Area

WINDOM -- Tara Svalland and Paige Kinley helped lead Worthington's girls' gymnastics team to a 130.60-123.075 victory over Windom Area Thursday.

Svalland used first-place finishes in the vault (9.475), balance beam (8.05) and floor (9.30) to earn a first-place finish in the all-around (34.757). Svalland also added a third-place finish on the bars (7.925).

Kinley used a first-place finish on bars (8.15), second-place finish on floor (9.125) and a third-place finish on balance beam (7.40) to earn a second-place finish in the all-around (33.075).

After two meets in which the Trojans upped their high score, the squad was unable to make it three-straight meets, but still get the win.

"We fell a few times on bars and had a couple miscues," WHS coach Joni Reitmeier said. "We had too many falls on the balance beam too.

"We came off a really big win on Thursday (versus Martin County Area) and we have to treat each meet like it was like that one."

Liz Hayenga (8.90) finished second on the vault and Whitney Jensen finished second on the balance beam (7.625).

Windom was led by Miki Bolin, who finished third in the all-around (31.925) behind third-place finishes on vault (8.65), floor (8.575) and a second-place finish on bars (8.0).

In JV competition, Worthington beat Windom 114.75-61.90.

Alyssa Williams led the way for Worthington, winning the all-around (27.90) with a second-place finishes on vault (8.10) and balance beam (7.0) and third-place finish on floor (7.30). Whitney Jensen won bars (8.50), Haley Gravenhof won balance beam (7.20) and Liz Hayenga won the floor (7.60).

Worthington will be at Marshall Jan. 19.
