WHS speech team places sixth at St. Peter
WORTHINGTON -- The Worthington High School speech team finished sixth out of a field of 16 teams at the St. Peter Speech Tournament last Saturday.
Coaches Linda Neugebauer and Anna Korver saw their team's numbers temporarily decline (from more than 30 to 18), as some of the speech students were participating in Business Professionals of America (BPA) competition elsewhere that day.
Individual placements were as follows: Humorous: Caleb Dirksen, second place; Serious Prose: Ana Lozano, second place, Ariana Lopez, seventh place; Poetry: Kristi Souksavath, seventh place; Extemporaneous Speaking: Jennifer Mayorga, second place; Storytelling: Kaili Burger, third place; Extemporaneous Reading: Karina Cuate, second place novice; Serious Drama: Mirna Lopez, fourth place, Helen Escoto, sixth place, Elyzabeth Coriolan, sixth place novice; Discussion: Patrick Burns, fifth place novice; Creative Expression: Anny Sompamitwong, blue ribbon, Jaimi Seesongkram, first place novice.
The Trojan speech team will compete again Saturday in Luverne.
