Worthington VFW claims third place at South Sioux City tournament
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. -- With three victories and a loss over the weekend, the Worthington VFW captured third at the South Sioux City Tournament.
In the first game, Mitchell Jensen struck out 11 batters to lead Worthington past Lyons, Neb.
Jensen allowed three runs on five hits and walked one.
At the plate, Jensen had a three-run double and had four RBI in the game.
Octavio Jiminez had three hits, including a three-run home run and scored three times.
Cody Melendrez had a pair of singles, while Kirk McBreen had two hits and scored twice.

In the second game Saturday, Adam Munkel allowed one hit while walking one and striking out 10 to lead Worthington to victory.
At the plate, Jiminez had two singles and scored four times, while Tyler Stugelmeyer had two singles and scored twice. Munkel helped his own cause by driving in three runs.

While the Worthington bats provided more than enough offense Saturday, Sunday's first game proved to be a different story.
Derek Lee suffered the tough-luck loss, allowing three runs and striking out two in seven innings.
Justin Larson had two hits in the game, while Jiminez and Stugelmeyer each had a hit for Worthington.

Worthington 11, Sioux City North 4
In the third-place game, Worthington scored early and often to defeat North.
Ethan Duffy started on the hill and allowed four runs in three innings, while Steven Kremer earned the victory in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits and struck out four in four innings.
Offensively, Worthington took advantage of five SCN errors. Jensen had a two hits, including a three-run double, while Kremer had a single and drove in three runs.
Worthington will travel to Slayton today.
