WREDC searching for new logo
WORTHINGTON -- The Worthington Regional Economic Development Corp. (WREDC) is looking for a new logo.
And it is asking for the public's help. The WREDC is seeking local designers to submit their logos for consideration.
"My admin board narrowed it down to three logos, and we brought it to our board," WREDC interim manager Chris Witzel said. "Somebody thought it would be a good idea to make sure we get the best logo possible. They decided to open it up to some graphic designers and students. I've sent out to the college and high school. Pretty much, they want the best logo, and they want as many options as they can get. They'd like it to be made by a local person."
The new logo will be introduced at this year's Bioscience Conference, set for April 18-19 at Minnesota West Community and Technical College, Worthington campus.
"It has to be in by March 15 so it can be revealed by the 2013 Bioscience Conference," Witzel said. "The winning designer will be given a free ticket to attend to be at the unveiling of the logo. They will also receive $100 in chamber bucks to be spent at local businesses."
There are few limitations for the new logo design.
"Overall, just the direction of our organization is to improve and retain business in Worthington," Witzel said. "City growth is the theme that we wanted to stick to. We're pretty open to any creative ideas. We do not want to be specific to one market. We don't want to put a hog in there or something like that. We want it to be a broad-range logo that will cover all aspects of Worthington businesses."
Currently, the WREDC uses the same Worthington logo as other organizations.
"A couple years ago, they all used the Worthington logo to show they were unified," Witzel explained. "That's good to a point, but there are a lot of downsides to that, as well. There are a lot of people in town that don't know what the WREDC is or what we do, therefore they don't use our services as much as they probably should.
"We are going to try to step out a bit. We would like to stick to the Worthington blue and maybe the Worthington script logo -- if we can include that in our new logo, that would be perfect. We don't want to show that we're completely different from the city and the chamber, but we want to have our own independent logo that we can identify ourselves."
